Lucent Technologies Research and Development Complex,
Naperville and Lisle, Illinois

Lucent Technologies’ research and development complex spans two sites and accommodates 4,000 employees.  Each building includes offices, laboratories, conference centers, parking, and pedestrian bridges to adjacent existing buildings. The Lisle lobby features an elliptical drum of exposed steel and glass enclosure, capped by a 120-ft diameter tilted roof.  The effect is an open, light-filled lobby that soars to 115 ft at its apex.

The Naperville lobby structure consists of four exposed structural steel tri-cord trusses that cantilever 45 ft over the main entrance, supporting a curved steel and glass canopy.

Koz Sowlat, SE, served as chief structural engineer.
